Airtel Mobile Commerce, known as Airtel Money has launched a new payment solution called Airtel Money Pay.
The pay is a Business Wallet targeted to help the informal sector separate Business and Personal transactions without the need for documents that would normally be required to register.
Speaking during the breakfast launch in Lusaka today, Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati lauded Airtel Zambia for a strategic payment solution program that he said will help small medium enterprises get bigger as well as assist customers to transact securely and instantly.
He said the Airtel money pay program will complement government’s efforts in the journey of digital transformation aimed at achieving, job creation and a cash light economy.
“If we are to transform lives and solve critical problems, then we ought to keep technology simple, and ensure the micro and small entrepreneurs are provided with such digital opportunities,” he said.
Meanwhile, speaking at the same event, Executive Director for Airtel Mobile Commerce, Apoorva Mehrotra said that the Airtel money pay program will digitize payments for Micro, Small & and Medium Businesses in Zambia.
The Managing Director added that the initiative will help accelerate ownership of Mobile Money accounts, usage of Mobile wallets instead of using cash as well as fortifying partner Eco-systems to roll out savings and help build working capital for SME’s.
