ALCOHOL BELIEVED TO BE CAUSE OF MENTAL DISORDER

The Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance (SAAPA) says alcohol as a major cause of mental disorders especially among youths in the country.

SAAPA Executive Director Philip Chiponda said more than 40 percent of admissions at Lusaka’s Chainama Mental Hospital are linked to alcohol hence causing alcohol induced mental disorders.

He said alcohol abuse among youths have caused many suicidal cases and other illicit behaviors in society.

Mr. Chiponda further urged youths to take counseling seriously and talk to trusted people if they have a challenge and not resort to alcohol.

“Alcohol is not the best thing you can do when you are facing challenges in life,” he said.
