Chama North Member of Parliament Yotam Mtayachalo has supported the position taken by some stakeholders who are calling for cancelling of the selection of enumerators for the 2022 census of population and housing because of allegations of corruption and nepotism.
Mr. Mtayachalo said that there have been wide spread complaints from people in some districts over unfair selection of enumerators which he says is very unfair and not acceptable.
“However, it is surprising that the government which was elected on the basis of fighting corruption is mute over this matter and as such it’s continued silence without stating its position on the allegations has the potential to dent the image of the government,” he said.
He said in order to promote transparency and accountability the government should have assigned independent officers from other districts to supervise the exercise which could have reduced the current wide spread complaints.
