Citizen’s Environmental and Social Concern (CESCo) says Zambia needs to totally ban single use plastic bags to curb plastic pollution crisis.
Speaking to one love radio in an exclusive interview CESCo executive director, Conwell Hakapya said, totally banning single-use plastic bags and heavily regulating single-use plastic bottles through an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulation and not the current Extended Producer Responsibilities SI of 2018 will be a good move.
Mr. Hakapya further explained that recycling plastic is also a good solution, but not an ultimate solution, hence the need to heavily regulate and reduce plastic production to lessen recycling process.
“While using plastics in some cases may be unavoidable as earlier alluded to, we can take steps to reduce our constant consumption and production of plastics through regulations such as applying proven environmentally friendly measures,” he said.
