Chief Madzimawe of the Ngoni people in Kasenengwa District, Eastern province has supported the move by government to prosecute those who marry teenage girls.
Speaking in an interview with one love radio news, chief Madzimawe said the sentiments made President Hakainde Hichilema are exciting and that he will not be let down as the chiefs will continue to fight against early child marriages.
He said a number of early child marriage cases have gone without any prosecution of which he says is unfortunate.
Chief Madzimawe further said that this move will prevent many people to take young girls for granted and do what is not right.
“This now shows that the political will is strong, all of us should join hands and fight, because a number of cases go unpunished. The police under victim and child protection need to be adequately supported so that they perform their duties adequately,” he said.
