ChildFund Zambia has launched the emergency cash transfer in Luangwa aimed at reducing poverty amongst 4355 households in Luangwa.
ChildFund Zambia country Direct Simba Machingaidze states that each of the families will receive k400 per month via Airtel money and they expect to disburse 1milion 800 thousand kwacha.
He states that they are hopeful the funds will not only put food on the table but also support the recovery of livelihoods, protection of children and increase access to health care services.
He has urged the beneficiaries to ensure that their children are provided for.
Speaking at the same event, Luangwa District Commissioner says government through cooperating partners as Child Fund is increasing livelihood support for women in extreme poverty conditions.
The commissioner has since urged stake holders to emulate ChildFund Zambia and come on board in supplementing governments efforts.
And Luangwa Child Development Agency Chief Executive Officer Danford Makayi has explained that the money is being given to women, child and elderly headed households to help them amidst the effects of Covid 19.
Mr. Makayi has since advised the beneficiaries to utilize the resources prudently and ensure their children are well taken care of.
And Senior Chief Mpuka has commended ChildFund Zambia for the gesture as government alone cannot meet all the needs of the people.
He has since advised the beneficiaries to invest the money into business ventures that will bring back money.
Meanwhile one of the beneficiaries thanked ChildFund Zambia for the gesture as it will help them a great deal as most people in the area have been badly hit by the Covid 19 pandemic which has left them with no income.
