Chipata District Farmers Association has appealed to the government to take farmers’ requests seriously and ensure that the maize floor price is increased.
Association coordinator, Malambo Virgil said the current prices that the food reserve agency has been buying maize from farmers is on the low side hence an increase in prices will benefit largely on the productivity of farmers.
Mr. Virgil told One Love Radio news that the cost of production especially with the increase in prices of inputs like fertilizer and transportation is becoming a challenge for many farmers.
“Farmers will need to deliver this maize to satellite depots and considering that the feeder roads in some areas are in bad shape and farmers end up paying quite a lot,” he said.
