CURRENT FUEL SHORTAGES ATTRIBUTED TO LOGISTICAL CHALLENGES

The Energy Regulation Board ERB has assured members of the public that it is doing everything possible to address the reported fuel shortages that are being experienced in the country.

This comes in the wake of the long queues experienced at filling stations on the Copperbelt province as well as Mongu district in western province.

ERB Public Relations Manager Namukolo Kasumpa said that the board is undertaking routine fuel stocks monitoring, working in collaboration with TAZAMA, INDENI and oil marketing companies OMCs to ensure there reliable and continues fuel supply in the country

Ms. Kasumpa said that the pockets of fuel outages at selected filling stations have been attributed to logistical challenges on the part of OMCs that operate retail sites.

She said that the board has received reports from OMCs on import challenges related to the scarcity of foreign exchange on the market coupled with the depreciation of the kwacha against the US dollar especially in the last six months.

“The Board remains committed to working diligently to prevent any fuel shortages and will continue to closely monitor the fuel situation and maintain regular communication with fuel suppliers to address any potential challenges promptly,” she said.
