The Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM has commended the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) for the efforts put in place to address the risks associated with low rainfall patterns and its associated impacts on other sectors of the economy.
However, the association has noted with sadness in the statement issued by, the Minister of Energy Peter Chibwe kapala on the state of the hydrological situation at Kariba and the subsequent introduction of 6-hour load shedding patterns which is as a result of declining water levels in the Kariba dam.
Association Chief Executive Officer Muntanga Lindunda said the association is deeply concerned with the pronouncement as it threatens productivity in the manufacturing sector which has already been affected by the rising cost of doing business as a result of an increase in fuel prices.
To this effect ZAM recommended that Government exempts the manufacturing sector from the loadshedding schedule so that the industry can run without downtime.
“Considering the importance of the manufacturing sector to economic growth, it is recommended that Government exempts the manufacturing sector from the load shedding schedule so that the industry can run without downtime”.
