The Zambian Childhood Cancer Foundation, ZACCAF has observed that sickle cell condition has put a lot of families in distress.
ZACCAF Chairperson Charity Pikiti said this is because when a member of the family has sickle cell, the lives of other members especially the parents evolve around the sick child.
“This also affects the family`s economic activities,” she said.
Ms. Pikiti speaking at the ZANASE Theatre Club, under Zambia National Service were ZNS went to perform for children, mothers and staff at University Teaching Hospital, UTH`s Children hospital to mark World Theater Day, which falls on 27th of March every year.
And Hospital In-charge, Dr. Mathews Manoji said the idea for ZANASE to commemorate the day at the hospital was therapeutic.
Dr. Manoji says being in hospital for a long time is traumatizing both to the patient and the care giver, hence such an event of entertainment nature is important and energizing.
The event was organized in collaboration with ZACCAF, Hemophilia Foundation of Zambia, HFZ, and Zambia Sickle Cell Anemia Association, ZSCAS.
