Small Scale Farmers Development Agency SAFFADA has encouraged farmers to consider winter farming, looking at the current weather patterns in the country.

SAFFADA chief executive officer Boyd Moobwe said with winter farming such as winter maize production, the country would not face a food deficit.

speaking in an interview with one love radio, Mr. Moobwe said looking at the heavy rains experienced so far in some parts of the country, there is need to sensitize farmers on how to store water for irrigation and how best they can be assisted to venture into winter farming.

“lets not depend on maize only we can grow maize through out the year, it is only that we don’t have a system in Zambia farmers do not know how to harvest water, if they were given skills on how to harvest water then this would be the things of the past“, he said.
