FARMERS ASSOCIATION WELCOMES PROPOSED DECENTRALIZATION OF FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE CENTERS.

Chipata District Farmers Association has welcomed the government pronouncement to invest in decentralizing foot and mouth disease treatment centers in four districts across the country.

On Monday Agriculture permanent secretary Green Mbozi presented a report during the first private sector day at Mulungushi conference center in Lusaka organized by the Public Private Dialogue Forum, which stated that the Zambia National Farmers Union as well as the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock among others agreed to decentralize centers to treat foot and mouth diseases in Choma, Solwezi, Chipata and Mongu districts so as to reduce the cost and time for farmers outside Lusaka.

Association coordinator, Malambo Virgil remained optimist that the centers brought near to famers in rural areas will help small holder farmers ensure the disease is brought under control and more animals are not lost.

“That’s a very welcome move and we look forward to the implementation of all those progressive ideas from the dialogue and we really would want to see that this thing does not delay in being implemented,” he said.
