FIRE INCIDENT INVOLVING ROAD TANK VEHICLES UNDER INVESTIGATIONS.

Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has instituted investigations into the fire incident that occurred on 3rd June, 2023 in Makeni area of Lusaka District involving road tank vehicles.

ERB Manager Public Relations Namukolo Kasumpa said while investigations are still ongoing, preliminary findings have established that on Saturday 3rd June 2023, around 11:50 hours fire broke out at Domali Garage, located on Plot No. 9463 off Kafue Road in Makeni area of Lusaka District burning four (4) road tanker vehicles.

She said Two (2) of the tankers were used for the transportation of petroleum products, whilst the other two (2) were for the transportation of molasses and water.

Mrs. Namukolo further explained that the two (2) fuel tankers in question are validly licensed by the ERB under Atosh Transport Limited and Taam Zambia Limited.

“The Board has subsequently directed that the two respective licensees submit comprehensive incident reports detailing among others, the cause of the accident and measures undertaken to ensure accidents of similar nature do not re-occur in line with their standard transportation licence conditions,” he said.

ERB further warned that Non-adherence to license conditions specifically with respect to parking in undesignated areas and the use of unauthorized routes for fuel tankers constitutes a breach of license conditions and calls for enforcement action against erring entities.
