FODEP SLAM WITHDRAW OF CANDIDATES IN KWACHA AND KABUSHI

The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has called for constitutional review in order to deal with constitutional clauses which promote abuse of democracy.

Speaking to one love radio news, FODEP Executive Director Elijah Rubvuta said the provision of the law which allows the refilling of nominations are not progressive as they tend to waste time as well as prolonging the vacancy of an office.

Mr. Rubvuta noted that refilling nomination papers by candidates does not add values to the principles of democratic as it promotes individual interests rather than that of citizens.

“It promotes abuse of the process by certain elements in the political parties,” he said.

Meanwhile the Anti Corruption Commission ACC has arrested and charged former Kabushi Constituency Parliamentarian Bowman Lusambo for electoral corruption.

Lusambo has been arrested and charged with four (4) counts of Bribery contrary to Section 81 of the Electoral Process Act No. 35 of 2016. The offences were committed between 1st April 2021 and 14th August 2021 in Ndola during the August 2021 General Elections campaign period.

The arrest follows the recent ruling of the Constitutional Court which nullified the election of Lusambo as Member of Parliament for Kabushi Constituency for engaging in electoral corruption.
