Food Reserve Agency FRA has reiterated that it has reached its target of purchasing maize from farmers.
This follows a statement by the agency stating that it will immediately resume the purchasing of maize already delivered to various satellite depots countrywide but no new deliveries will be bought by the Agency.
Speaking in an interview with one love radio news on Wednesday, FRA Public Relations Coordinator John Chipandwe says the agency has reached the target of purchasing 500 thousand metric tons of maize and cannot purchase new deliveries.
He says the agency is purchasing the maize already delivered at the satellite depots because of the concerns that came from farmers stating that if the agency does not buy the maize immediately with the onset of the rains it might pose serious challenges and crop loss.

Mr. Chipandwe further explains that the agency needs to clear all farmers that have their maize waiting on the satellite depots and mop out what is available so as not to create inconveniences or panic to the farmers.
