The Food Reserve Agency -FRA- says that it will be buying a 50-kilogramme bag of maize at 280 Kwacha.
This year’s maize price is an increase above last year’s 180 Kwacha per 50 kilogramme bag of maize.
FRA Board Chairperson, KELVIN HAMBWEZYA announced that the agency’s 2023 maize price at a media briefing on Wednesday in Lusaka.
Mr. HAMBWEZYA said the decision was arrived at considering the maize prices pertaining in the region.
He further said in order to curb illegal cross border trade, the agency recommends to government to put up measures that will control such illegal outflows in boarder areas.
“In order to ensure the country is food secure and manage external pressures on the Zambian maize grain, the agency realizes the importance of free trade between nations,” he said.
