The Human Rights Commission (HRC) has appealed to institutions of justice delivery to take special measures aimed at preventing the outbreak of cholera in scarcity of liberty facilities such as detention and correctional facilities.
Human Rights Commission Mwelwa Muleya said that Individuals deprived of liberty are extremely vulnerable and at a high risk of contracting cholera mainly because of overcrowding and inadequate access to water supply and sanitation services.
Mr. Muleya further said, in the face of the outbreak of cholera, the authorities must take special measures designed to protect individuals in detention, correctional and other deprivation of liberty facilities from contracting the deadly water borne disease.
