ILLEGAL STRUCTURES BROUGHT DOWN IN LUSAKA.

A combined team of Lusaka City Council Police, State Police and City planning department last night swung into action and demolished some structures illegally erected at Mandevu Junction lay-by.

The operation was undertaken after the owners of the business called “raising youths who lift one another take away restaurant” defied numerous notices of  caution from the City Council.

“The operation started at 21:00hrs last night and ended at 03:00hrs this morning,”.

During the operation, four youths exhibited unruly behavior and started stoning officers on the ground and further damaged their equipment. These youths were however, apprehended and are detained at Lusaka Central Police Station.

Further, some items such as refrigerators, television sets, beer and soft  drinks were confiscated from the business owners for failing to comply with the council directions.

In an effort to promote decent infrastructure planning  in the city, the Local Authority will not condone the behavior of mounting illegal structures as it is against the urban and regional planning act of 2015.

“We therefore, urge members of the public to follow laid down procedures in mounting business structures as the Local Authority will not hesitate to pull down structures built illegally in the city,”.

This was contained in a statement issued by LCC Acting Public Relations Manager Mastone Moonze.
