Siavonga Constituency Development Fund committee Chairperson Lubinda Mubiana says the committee has set aside one million kwacha for procurement of school desks in the Constituency.
This comes after the introduction of free education policy by UPND government as an election promise in January this year where schools in siavonga district have had an increase in the number of pupils being enrolled hence a shortage of desks.
Following the pronouncement by President Hakainde Hichilema, that no pupil should sit on the floor while learning, Mr. Mubiana revealed that six local companies have been hired to make one hundred and fifty desks each adding that twenty five percent out of the one million kwacha has been paid towards desk making for each company.
He remained optimistic that purchasing of desks in schools in the district will help address shortage of desks faced by some schools.
