K300 FINE FOR DISOBEDIENCE OF NEW ROAD REGULATION WELCOME-CITIZENS

Some motorists and pedestrians have welcomed the move by the Road Transport And Safety Agency RTSA to fine a k300 for any pedestrians found misusing their mobile phone and wearing headsets or headphones while crossing the roads.

This follows a statutory instrument SI signed by the Minister of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali to enhance positive road user behavior in a bid to save lives and prevent injuries on roads.

The road users told One Love Radio news in an interview that the SI is a good move to try and avoid unnecessary accidents and lessons will be learnt by all road users.

“Charging a certain fine on wrong doers when crossing the road is a good move to avoid accidents,” they said.

Meanwhile, when contacted for a comment the Public Passenger Transport Drivers Association National Secretary Sydney Mbewe strongly advised road users not to take the blame game but be responsible.

Mr. Mbewe says the SI is beneficial to everyone including drivers and cyclists hence people should take responsibility and pay maximum attention when using public roads especially.
