KABUSHI CONSTITUENCY CANDIDATE WITHDRAWS FROM ELECTION

Independent Kabushi constituency candidate in the upcoming by-election Alfred Joseph Yombwe has resigned from the race.

In a resignation letter to the Electoral Commission of Zambia ECZ, Mr. Yombwe stated that he has withdrawn his candidature from the forthcoming Kabushi constituency by election.

He stated that his resignation follows the unfair practices on the part of other candidates in the campaigns which he alleges, include distribution of money to electorates as seen in some videos.

He further alleged that his decision is also due to beating up of people by the UPND hence he says his campaign team have been afraid to freely campaign.

Now, according to article 52(6) of the constitution of Zambia, where a candidate dies resigns or becomes disqualified after the close of nominations and before the election date, it states that the electoral commission of Zambia shall cancel the election and require the filling of fresh nominations.
