A combined team of Lusaka City Council Public Health Inspectors, Council Police, State Police and Ministry of Health Staff on Monday, conducted an operation in Lusaka’s Kabwata Constituency on House shops, markets and Bus stations in regards to the sale of alcohol.
This is in response to the Ministerial circular directing all Local Authorities across the country to enforce the provisions of the liquor licensing Act No. 20 of 2011, the Food Safety Act No.7 of 2019 and the Public Health Act, Cap 295 of the Laws of Zambia.
During the operation, assorted beers were seized while 15 liquor licenses were revoked. During the same exercise, five premises were closed down for trading in liquor without the required licenses.
The traders who were found wanting have been warned for illegally selling alcohol and further for allowing customers to drink from their unauthorized premises.
“The local authority has since appealed to the general public and traders to respond positively, by stopping to drink beer from home shops and traders to stop selling liquor in home shops respectively”.
This is contained in a statement issued by LCC Public Relations Officer Dorothy Phiri.
