MINES SHOULD BE OWNED BY ZAMBIANS-SIMUMBA

Renowned economist and leadership conference foundation board member Trevor simumba says the Zambian mining policy has to focus on maximizing and empowering the Zambia people and not foreigners.

Mr. Simumba said in an interview that mines in Zambia should be owned by the local people; hence the policy should look at maximizing and building capacity among citizens to run the mines.

He said that minerals should not be given out easily to foreigners, but rather should be exploited to the maximum benefit of Zambia and not people’s pockets.

“Even a simple Gold mine we gave it to foreigners honestly, what kind of country is this,” he said.
