The Public Passenger Transport Drivers Association of Zambia has called on the ministry of transport to mediate over the dispute declared by bus operators with regards to reduced bus fares.
Association National Secretary Sydney Mbewe said with this conflict, the ministry should have called for a stakeholder meeting to get the reasons as to why the bus drivers are declaring a dispute.
Mr. Mbewe stated that RATSA should also be brought on board to present the rationale on which they arrived at such a figure to avoid misunderstanding going forward.
Meanwhile Mr. Mbewe condemned the reported protest by bus operators yesterday on the copperbelt.
“We have never had such a huge reduction or increase on fares,” he said.
And the Road Transport and Safety Agency -RTSA says it will re-engage stakeholders on the adjustment of fares following confusion which has characterized the recent K5 downwards announcement.
RTSA Head of Public Relations FREDRICK MUBANGA said the agency wants to promote sanity in the transport sector hence the need to re-engage all stakeholders involved.
