LACK OF PROGRESS ON ENACTING ATI BILL CONCERNS MISA.

Media Institute of Southern Africa MISA Zambia has expressed concern with the prolonged enactment of the access to information bill by the government.

The organization wondered why the government has continued to pay a blind eye to this important piece of legislation which could help develop this country and enhance transparency and accountability.

Speaking during the launch of the State of the media report  in Zambia for the period January to June 2022, Organization National Director Austin Kayanda said the report  being launched highlights on a number of issues not limited to media freedom, access to information, digital rights and the  recently enacted cyber security and cyber crimes act.

Mr. Kayanda stated that The State of the media report in Zambia is a quarterly assessment of the media environment which serves  as an  advocacy tool for media policy.

while we appreciate governments efforts regarding the ATI bill enactment process by engaging in consultation we believe the consultations will prolong the enactment,” he said.

MISA Zambia has for over 15 years been publishing the state of the media reports which have aided duologue and action between the media, government and other stakeholders.
