The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit DMMU says there are no plans yet to relocate those affected with floods looking at the long processes.
Speaking to One Love Radio news, DMMU senior communications Officer Mathews Musukwa said there are a lot of factors surrounding issues of relocating, especially that some places become dry immediately after the rainy season .
He said in some cases, relocating becomes a long-term solution that also needs to engage higher authorities.
“Relocating them won’t be a good idea, the process is quiet long because we have to engage other departments in the office of the vice president to find land,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Meteorological Department earlier announced that Zambia will continue experiencing flash floods due to continued heavy rainfall due to factors including the inter-tropical convergence zone that have caused Zambia to continue receiving surplus rainfall of about 30 to 40 millimeters.
