Zambia Police Service has recorded 10,797cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV) country-wide during the first quarter of 2023. Out of the 10,797 cases, 6,944 were criminal cases and the rest were non-criminal.
During the same period, Police recorded 35 GBV related murder cases out of which 10 victims were men, 15 were women, and six were boys and four girls.
Lusaka Province recorded the highest number of GBV criminal related cases with 1,413 cases while Northern Province recorded the lowest with 162 cases
During the same period, GBV disaggregated data indicates that 1,924 girls and 750 boys were abused while 6,271 and 1,852 women and men respectively were abused country-wide.
“During the first quarter of 2022, Police recorded 6,915 GBV cases country-wide. 19 were recorded as GBV related murder cases”.
