Patriotic Front says former Kabushi lawmaker Bowman Lusambo has a constitutional right to recontest his seat which was nullified by the Constitutional Court recently.
Speaking in an interview, PF presidential aspirant Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba said there was no pronouncement from the judgment that suggest the Mr Lusambo could be disqualified from contesting the coming by-election.
Mr Mwamba added that the former Lusaka province minister is a popular figure in Kabushi and this has caused panic among political opponents.
Mr Lusambo declared his interest to stand in the upcoming by-election after attending a church service at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kabushi constituency
Meanwhile the Constitutional Court has affirmed the decision of High Court judge Kazimbe Chenda to declare Joseph Malanji’s election as Kwacha Constituency PF Member of Parliament void for not possessing a grade 12 certificate during his re-election
Constitutional Court vice-president Margaret Munalula on behalf of the majority ruled that judge Chenda cannot be censured for determining Malanji’s eligibility to contest in the August 12, 2021 general elections as he did not possess the requisite academic qualification when filing in nomination papers in line with Article 70(1) of the Constitution.
