Zambia Police Spokesperson Rae Hamonga says a total number of 9679 road traffic accidents were recorded country-wide during the second quarter of 2023.
Mr. Hamoonga said this represents an increase in the number of accidents as compared to the second quarter of 2022 the same period.
Mr. Hamoonga stated that 421 were recorded as fatal road traffic accidents in which 525 persons were killed, 919 were recorded as serious injury road traffic accidents in which 1604 persons were serious injured, 1844 were recorded as slight injury road traffic accident in which 2639 persons were slightly injured, the total number of casualties in the second quarter of 2023 was 4768.
Mr. Hamoonga further revealed that Lusaka Province recorded the highest number of road traffic accidents with 5601 representing 57.9%, followed by Copperbelt with 1257, Central with 717, Southern with 567 representing 5.9%, North-Western with 370 representing 3.8%, Eastern with 352 among others.
