Third Liberation Movement party calls for the judiciary to be independent from the presidency

Third Liberation Movement party president Roosevelt Tonga has called for the judiciary to be independent from the presidency to restore confidence in the justice system of the nation.

Mr. Tonga has told One Love Radio News in an interview that the minister of justice, chief justice and heads of key institution should not be appointed by the president for them to be free and fair.

He notes that judges cannot go against the state even when it errors as they fear losing their jobs.

He has bemoaned that even before the Anti-corruption commission investigates a case they need a go ahead from the Director of Public Prosecutions who is also under the presidency hence it is impossible to restore confidence in the system.
