The Zambia National Public Health Institute ZNPHI with the Ministry of Health, has revealed a significant rise in the number of new COVID 19 cases, admissions, deaths and test positivity rates.
Minister of Health Hon. Sylvia T. Masebo, said during the COVID 19 daily updates on the 20th of December 2021 that, it has been observed that almost all individuals who are dying from COVID-19 related complications are those who are not vaccinated.
And ZNPHI director communication for research Mazaba Mazyanga Liwewe has also told on Love radio news that, the 5 persons that have died were sadly unvaccinated.
She emphasized on the need for people to get vaccinated so as to prevent the COVID 19, further stating that two of the deceased are children.
“If many adults got vaccinated there would be a provision of herd immunity that will allow young unvaccinated to be protected” Mrs. Liwewe further said.
Meanwhile, the country has recorded recorded five (5) new deaths in the last 24 hours, from Lusaka (4) and North-western (1) provinces, of which included 2 children aged 3 months and 5 years.
