WOMEN CALLED IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE.

The Minister of Green Economy and Environment Collins Nzovu has called on women to get fully involved in the fight against climate change.

Speaking at a capacity building workshop in Lusaka, Mr. Nzovu said women are among the most vulnerable to climate change as it affects day-to-day living owing to their important role in society.

He said climate change is a reality whose effects are now very visible, as seasonal changes, flash floods and temperature rises can no longer be ignored, adding that more needs to be done to empower and educate women for sustainable development and poverty reduction.

The Minister said the workshop could not have come at a better time than this when Government is committing to addressing adverse effects of climate change across the county.

“Government will continue to ensure that the fight against climate change yields results for the intended beneficiaries.”

Meanwhile Head of Banking at the Bank of Zambia Gladys Chiwele said more capital must be channeled towards the carbon markets, adding that more needs to be done to ensure capacity building and inclusion of women so as to unlock investment opportunities.
