WORLDFISH COMMENDED FOR EFFORTS IN CURBING POVERTY.

Worldfish country director Dr. Victor Siamudaala has called on the private sector to continue working with small holder farmers in order to continue sustaining efforts done by his organization and other partners in supporting aquaculture in the Northern Province.

Dr. Siamudaala said this on Thursday in Mbala after touring on of the small holder farm which benefited from their aquaculture empowerment project.

He Further emphasized that his organization has been working with Musika to create market linkages for farmers and a value chain in order for farmers to have ready market for their fish.

“On the market side we’ve worked with MUSIKA and we have seen the importance of making markets work for small holder farmers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock Makozo Chikote commended Worldfish for the efforts in curbing poverty in the province.

The Minister further promised the farmers that the government is working on cutting down the process of acquiring business licenses in order to promote entrepreneurship.

He assured the farmers that his government is exploring at the efforts of introducing FISP to aquaculture and livestock farmers.

He was also speaking on Thursday at the Worldfish project closure tour in Mbala.
