ZAMBIA COMMEMORATES WORLD RADIO DAY.

Zambia has joined the rest of the world in commemorating world radio day that falls on the 13th of February with the theme “Radio and Peace”.

Minister of Information and Media Chushi Kasanda has called on media practitioners to have an introspection on how they use radio as it has the power to build and destroy.

Speaking during the world radio day commemoration, Ms. Kasanda further called on media owners to build peace and not allow there platforms to be used for hate speech, tribalism and propaganda.

Meanwhile speaking at the same event, the Media Institute of Southern Africa MISA Zambia Director Austin Kayanda noted the importance of radio in contributing and adopting creative means of transformation,

He said radio also holds government accountable as IT creates development for the people.

“As a media platform, radio has played its roles to facilitate citizens’ access to information promoting free speech,” he said.
