ZESCO has announced that it will begin to carryout load management measures on Thursday the 15th o0f December 2022, against reduced power generating capacity owing to low water levels in the kariba dam.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka on Wednesday, ZESCO Managing Director victor Mapani says the mitigations which are a continuous process are put in place are to minimize the load management across all customers looking at the inflows of water into the lake.
Mr. Mapani explained that the power supply situation could affect the ability to meet system load customer power demand, especially during morning and evening peak demand periods.
“To effectively optimize the available power ZESCO, will endeavor to maximize generation at all its other generating stations. however should demand still be above available generation, ZESCO will institute load management through rotational scheduled load shedding across the country,”.
Furthermore, ZESCO also reveled that it has connected over 74, 000customers across the country so far.
Meanwhile, last week government through the Minister of Energy Peter Kapala announced that Zambia is likely to start experiencing six long hour power outage and load shedding daily starting on the 15 of December 2022 following a reduction in water at the Kariba dam.
