The Zambia National Men’s Network for Gender and Development (ZNMNGD) has lauded president Hakainde Hichilema’s position on ending child marriage, at the just ended African Union Heads of State Summit
Organization National coordinator Nelson Banda expressed happiness that Zambia has continued to provide leadership in ending child marriages by working with various actors both locally and at the continental level.
Mr. Banda also urged president Hichilema not to relent but provide the necessary leadership to curb child marriage, of which he said has been hindering many girls from realizing their potential and contribute to the social economic development of their communities and the country at large.
“In pushing the fight against child marriage to a whole new level, ZNMNGD is calling for the operationalization of the GBV fund which is meant to assist survivors of gender based violence. Eleven years after the law was passed, the Fund is not in place, so we further call on the New Dawn Government to allocate part of the Constituency Development Fund toward the construction of shelters for GBV victims as provided for in the Anti GBV Act,” he said.
