Worldview Institute Zambia Limited has donated over 100 food trees to Mambilima Primary School under its Shanga Project, an initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging community participation in tree planting.
The donation forms part of the institution’s broader environmental programme known as ‘Program Think Green’, which aims to plant one million trees across Zambia by the year 2030 as part of efforts to promote environmental conservation and food security.
Speaking during the handover, Worldview Institute Board Chairperson Victor Nachulu said the organisation, although primarily a think tank focused on generating ideas to shape a better Zambia and the global community, believes that ideas must sometimes move beyond theory into practical action.
Mr. Nachulu explained that the Program Think Green initiative represents the institute’s effort to actively engage communities in environmental stewardship.
He noted that caring for the environment is not only a civic responsibility but also a biblical one.
“For us, caring for the environment is not only a civic responsibility but also a biblical one. In Genesis Chapter 2 verse 15, humanity is reminded that we were placed in the garden to work it and take care of it.
This is what theologians often call the cultural mandate, the call to steward God’s creation responsibly for prosperity,” Mr. Nachulu said.
Meanwhile, the headteacher of Mambilima Primary School, Abel Tembo, welcomed the tree planting initiative, describing it as a significant step toward improving pupils’ nutrition and environmental awareness at the school.
Mr. Tembo expressed optimism that the trees will provide fruits within the next three to five years, thereby contributing to the nutrition of learners.
He thanked the donors for the gesture and encouraged them to continue supporting initiatives that promote environmental conservation and the well-being of pupils.
