A total of 1,610 double seater desks procured using the 2024 expanded Constituency Development Fund (CDF) have been delivered to various public schools across Nalolo District of Western Province.
Nalolo Town Council Public Relations Officer Buttyson Kandimba said the desks represents about 56 percent of the targeted 2886 desks being procured using the 2024 CDF at K4.6 million aimed at addressing the deficit in Nalolo Constituency.
Speaking to One Love Radio news, Mr. Kandimba said that the procurement is in line with the Presidential Directive that no child should be sitting on the floor during lessons.
Mr. Kandimba mendioned that the tender process was conducted through Open National Bidding, reserved for Nalolo-based contractors.
“The Local Authority urges contractors who have not yet met their obligations to expedite the delivery process,” Mr. Kandimba said.
He noted that Nalolo District has a total of 67 Public Schools out of which 63 are Primary Schools and four (04) are Secondary Schools.
“The District has a total of 27, 278 learners out of which 12, 799 are Boys while 14, 479 are girls as regular pupils.
“There has been a significant improvement in enrolment levels in Schools across the District compared to 26, 035 learners recorded in the last quarter of 2024,” emphasized Mr. Kandimba.
He however noted that the increase in the number of learners in the District has been attributed mainly to the rolling out of the free education policy.
