CEEC COMMENDED FOR EXTENDING EMPOWERMENT LOANS TO THE TOURISM SECTOR

Ministry of Tourism Permanent Secretary Evans Muhanga has commended Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission CEEC for extending empowerment loans to the tourism sector.

The CEEC own a Taxi, Minibus or Light Truck loan product is scoring success even the tourism sector, with one such example being Chris Travel and Tours in Livingstone, a company which was empowered with 3 more vehicles and is now doing better when it comes to business.

In an interview with One Love Radio news, Mr. Muhanga said CEEC, through the loan product, is contributing to growing the tourism sector, resulting in increased efficiency in service delivery in the sector.

“For CEEC to be able to give vehicles to businesses in the tourism sector, that also helps as part of a stimulus package to grow the sector.” Mr. Muhanga said.

Mr. Muhanga since urged CEEC to increase access to the loan product for the tourism sector.

Seeing the potential for more employment opportunities in the transport sector, CEEC came up with the loan product or project which is so far going well and has seen a good number of beneficiaries empowered with vehicles.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the loan product, CEEC Public Relations and Communications Manager Michelo Mukata said the coming in of players such as Yango in the transport sector show that the transportation businesses are viable and could be a source of employment and income.

“The loan product aims to give targeted citizens and enterprises an opportunity to acquire productive assets through affordable financing.” Mr. Mukata added.

Beneficiary, Christopher Mweetwa, Proprietor of Chris Travel and Tours had nothing but appreciation for CEEC’s loan product as it boosted his business.

Speaking during the CEEC chats program in Livingstone, Mr. Mweetwa said his business is now performing better compared to back then when he had fewer vehicles.
