Water for Water Zambia has launched its Green Hospitality Service—an initiative aimed at reducing plastic waste in the hospitality industry.
The service encourages local businesses to switch from plastic bottles to using glass bottles, serving filtered water, and promoting environmentally-friendly practices.
Speaking at the launch, WfW Zambia’s Manager of Sustainability Services, Sekayi Fundafunda, emphasized the importance of taking collective responsibility to protect the environment and improve livelihoods.
“So far the campaign has already invested over 60,000 US dollars to support the service in Zambia,” She said.
Chaminuka Luxury Lodge Director Stelios Sardanis ho is one of the key partners, also spoke passionately about the harmful impact of plastic waste, particularly on wildlife and ecosystems.
Mr. Sardanis further reiterated how the partnership with WfW will eliminate the need for bottled water in their services.
According to WfW, the Water for Water Green Hospitality Service is modeled after a successful program in Switzerland, where more than 600 hospitality partners are involved.
The initiative was launched in Zambia with seven partners, including Nomad’s Court Lodge, Palmwood Lodge, and Nkosi Livingstone Lodge and Spa.
“Proceeds from the service will support WfW’s projects in Zambia, providing sustainable water access in peri-urban areas. So far, over 150,000 people have benefited from WfW’s clean water initiatives.”
WfW, also highlighted that, with the new service, Water for Water is calling on Zambians to hydrate responsibly while supporting clean water accessibility and environmental sustainability.
