Medical Quality Healthcare Zambia (MQHZ) has called on government to focus on addressing the general issues that lead to poor performance in healthcare facilities, rather than resorting to installing CCTV cameras to monitor healthcare practitioners.
Recently, some members of the public have suggested that CCTV cameras be installed in all hospitals and clinics to monitor the performance of healthcare workers, citing concerns on excessive phone use and negligence.
However, in an interview with One Love Radio News, -MQHZ – Director general Dr. Quince Mwabu stated that this approach would not address the root causes of the problem but government should opt to implement more effective management and supervision practices to ensure that healthcare workers are held accountable for their performance.
He stressed that this approach would prioritize quality healthcare delivery, patient safety, and respect for healthcare workers’ professional integrity.
Dr. Mwabu also highlighted the importance of maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality which could be compromised by the installation of CCTV cameras in hospitals.
He added that MQHZ is willing to engage in further discussions with government and other stakeholders to explore alternative solutions that promote quality healthcare and address the concerns of the public.
“Focus on addressing the general issues that lead to poor performance in healthcare facilities,” Dr. Mwabu said.
